Being Health Questions
What should a new client know about working with you?
My goal in the first few sessions is to get a sense of you - of what your goals are, what your history of treatment is, and what your expectations are for our work together. What that looks like in practice is an open dialogue that will help us to get on the same page for your treatment plan. We have a variety of tools at our disposal including nutritional interventions or changes, somatic therapies, novel treatments such as Spravato and ketamine therapy, or some combination of the above that we will be mixing/matching to find the right fit for you.
Do you have experience working with any specific types of patients?
Throughout medical school, I worked at a student-run mental health clinic for patients without access to health insurance - at that point in time, 80% of our clinic patients identified as Mexican immigrants, and many struggled with having basic physical and safety needs met. Since then, I have continued to work with minoritized populations across different racial and ethnic backgrounds and sexual and gender identities. I have a theoretical background in working across racial and other aspects of difference that is based in the psychoanalytic literature and that I continue to expand through my work on several different psychoanalytic DEIBA+ committees.
I work closely with people whose depression hasn’t improved with traditional treatments to help them find relief. This includes conducting interventional psychiatry consultations to determine whether innovative options like Spravato or IV/IM ketamine could be a fit, and providing ongoing care and oversight throughout their treatment journey.
What can you share that would be relevant to prospective patients?
I approach care through a psychodynamic lens, integrating therapy and medication to help patients understand themselves more deeply and move through what feels stuck. My work is also shaped by a commitment to affirming care for people from diverse backgrounds and identities.
What do you find most interesting about Being Health's integrated care model?
I enjoy thinking about the history, philosophy, and ethics of medicine, and I appreciate how Being Health has moved past the artificial barriers currently built into our healthcare system to meet our patients where they actually are: minds connected to brains connected to bodies. Descartes was the first person to suggest that the mind and the brain are made up of separate substances, and while that’s an interesting thought experiment, it can be rather problematic from a treatment perspective.
After all, we’re taught that patients with medical concerns go to medical doctors, and mental health concerns go to psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals. But the brain and the body are deeply interconnected and it’s about time that we create more spaces to care for all aspects of human experience. The brain-gut and brain-pain axes are particularly strongly connected, so I am very excited to be able to work with a team that treats these issues as interrelated.
What’s your favorite thing to do for self care?
Spending time in nature, both outdoors and indoors - my oldest houseplant is 11 years old and still going strong! The emphasis on natural elements and calm spaces was something that really drew me to Being Health.

How do you decide if I’m a candidate for Spravato® or IV/IM ketamine therapy?
Spravato® or IV/IM ketamine may be options if you’re an adult living with treatment-resistant depression—typically defined as depression that hasn’t improved after trying at least two antidepressant medications. If you’re experiencing major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal thoughts or behavior, Spravato® treatment for depression might be a fit.
At Being Health, one of our psychiatrists will meet with you for an initial consultation to evaluate your symptoms, treatment history, and overall health. If either Spravato® or IV/IM ketamine is a good fit for you, we’ll guide you through every step from insurance authorization to ongoing treatment and monitoring.
