Cheryl Taruc, LCSW
Psychotherapist
She/Her
Cheryl is a licensed clinical social worker with more than a decade of experience supporting individuals and families across New York City. Her path to therapy was shaped by a deep commitment to social justice and years spent working in community organizing, nonprofit leadership, and healthcare technology. She brings this systems-level understanding to her clinical work; offering care that is thoughtful, collaborative, and rooted in the realities of each person’s lived experience.
Cheryl earned her Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College and her Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. Her clinical experience spans residential programs, shelters, veteran services, youth and family work, and more. She has extensive training in caregiving, grief and loss, trauma, substance use, and perinatal mental health.
As a therapist, Cheryl values self-determination and individualized care. She approaches each session with curiosity, compassion, and the belief that change and connection are always possible. She specializes in supporting people through anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Her practice is holistic and culturally affirming, grounded in the knowledge that healing can take many forms—and that it often begins with a relationship built on trust.

Being Health Questions
What should a new client know about working with you?
I love to collaborate on treatment goals, timelines, and on how to best create the most suitable therapeutic space. I not only encourage, but explicitly ask for feedback.
Do you have experience working with any specific types of patients?
In recent years, I have truly enjoyed working with artists, activists, and caregivers. I also have multiple years experience offering therapy and coaching in workplace settings.
What can you share that would be relevant to prospective patients?
I learn so much from and grow alongside my clients, and do my best to not only understand their perspective, but also to model what it looks like to accept and appreciate a range of life experience. I hope prospective patients know that their efforts in turn will help other individuals, families and communities in immeasurable ways.
What do you find most interesting about Being Health's integrated care model?
The choice and intentionality to see ourselves as whole beings, I truly appreciate that we can provide this to clients. Busy, modern life and society can lead to disconnection between parts of ourselves that would actually benefit from being in active conversation with each other.
What’s your favorite thing to do for self care?
Music - solo via headphones, with hundreds at a festival - I love the ability for music to match or shift my mood depending on what kind of self care I need.
